Speedcubing/Cross

Lesson 2

This lesson will teach about the cross and first layer

Cross

The cross is the first part in a layer-by-layer solve, the cross is 4 edges and their adjacent centres lined up with the same colour, this sould be intuitive but there are some tips to help you solve the cross.

  • Learn your colour scheme, on most modern cubes white is opposites yellow, blue opposite green and orange opposite red. Some cubes(mainly older ones) have Blue and yellow swapped.
  • If any white edge is in the yellow side with white facing up move it to its correct centre and do a half turn (180*)
  • 99.99% of the time the cross can be solved in 7 moves and all can be solved in 8, 10-12 should be a reasonable target for beginners

The cross is formed by moving the edges around the cube and can be learned pretty easily. You can find out more by visiting this. [1] You can solve it on any color you want. Most people solve it on the white face.
